In my practice I use photography, video, sculpture and sound to de-familiarise ordinary experience. I am concerned with how objects, bodies, images and text change in relation to basic physical properties: mass, gravity and space. I am also interested in knowledge — how it is accumulated, is assessed, and changes over time.
Hands (2015) is a series of short videos filmed with my mobile phone of my daughter using her hands to navigate through her first year. I observe as her understandings of things, and her relationships to them, develop over time with the help of these strange extremities. Museum objects, rocks, photographic images and the cat, are all of equal value and fascination.
