Jensen Tjhung

6 Black Paintings (2016) is the most recent work from an ongoing enquiry titled Rules, Regression, Relapse (2010 – present). This series with cement, bitumen and oxide paintings and sculptures combines building materials and various media into formal objects and the picture plane. The scientific disharmony of the materials often produces areas of disintegration or cohesion. I make these works quickly, often face down and multiple at once. 6 Black Paintings is six works made by pouring bitumen, caught behind the impossible patina of Perspex.
