I love words

Cos they’re so weak

(repeat)

Ariana Reines in Coeur De Lion (2007)

The term ingénue describes a character in literature, film, and a role type in the theatre; generally a girl or a young woman who is endearingly innocent and wholesome. This work uses the form of the ingénue and the framework of a screen-test to critique the cyclical nature of how female roles are produced in visual culture and in everyday life.

The work is non-linear in narrative. Actress Greta Gregory’s performance is buffered on each side with animated, found and organic footage in pink hues that present a vortex of ambient imagery amplifying the hopeless sense of facade she evokes in her spoken monologue.
