Trace forward diagrams (2015) is a series of paper cut works that start out as two dimensional shapes or ‘territories’ within the pictorial space. Through the algorithmic and artistic processes, the paper cuts are converted, or extruded, into three-dimensional worlds or inverted ecosystems: a hyperordered, hyper-dense, landscape of things.
These worlds mimic and highlight processes inherent within contemporary existence and technological growth, plus many other things. Some works are more introverted, others more extroverted in their orientation towards their sources of reference, each one however always exists on a spectrum between the two.
I am interested in interpreting ideas through morphing them into a form of diagrammatic visualisation. Growth processes, science, algorithms, assemblages, cultural memes, patterns and philosophical systems form the basis for the creation of a variety of visual systems.
My practice overall can be seen as an absurd collection of maps. Not so much as something that can be used as a source of navigation, but more as someone caught in the process of attempting to capture some kind of cartographic representation of space travel. A visual ontology incorporating ideas, matter, acceleration, signs, things and thought, morphed into an inconsistent and incoherent system of material things and signification systems.
